Leeds Media Centre is selected as headquarters for UK’s largest local television license holder!

The launch of a brand new MADE Television franchise is expected to create more than 50 jobs and more than £1 million of investment in the city.

The company has already made successful bids for local TV licenses in Bristol, Cardiff and Newcastle. Leeds will be the fourth franchise win for the MADE Television and the site on Savile Mount, managed by Unity Enterprise, will become the company’s headquarters.

Jamie Conway, CEO of MADE Television said: ‘This is the dawn of an exciting new era in UK television broadcasting. From an operational point of view, Leeds was always our number one choice for locating headquarters.’

Leeds was selected as the headquarters for Made Televsion, partly due the potential of working with high calibre students from local colleges and universities. MADE Television hopes to be able to offer apprenticeship and work experience opportunities.

Sally Joynson, CEO of Screen Yorkshire, said ‘The arrival of a major new player in TV is excellent news for the city, the local industry and of course new talent. The city is already well known for its extensive TV production history, but the arrival of local TV heralds a new era in broadcasting. It opens a new platform for us to identify and develop the next generation of home grown talent.’

The local TV channel will be broadcast across all major platforms including Freeview, Sky, Virgin and Freesat. News and entertainment content will be produced locally in Leeds.

‘Made in Leeds’ as it will be known, is expected to go live in early 2014 and will air to a potential audience of 3.5 million across Leeds, Wakefield, Dewsbury, Halifax and Huddersfield.
