Summer may be coming to an end, but the Meanwood Olympic legacy lives on!

Woodhouse Cricket Club was the host of this year’s Meanwood Olympics, an event coordinated by Zest Health For Life.

The four-week event was aimed at people of all ages in the Meanwood area and was particularly popular with children. At one of the weekly sessions, more than 120 children participated in a range of sporting events including football and basketball and competitions including dancing, zumba and tug-of-war.

The event aimed to promote the importance of keeping active and maintaining a healthy diet. Amidst all the sporting activities was a stall serving up freshly prepared healthy recipes which were served to the participants.

Unity was present at the event to offer local people advice on housing, employment and welfare and to make people aware of our presence in the Meanwood community. Several Unity tenants attended the event, bringing with them their friends and families.

On the final week of the Olympics, medals and trophies were given by Fabian Hamilton, Labour MP for Leeds North East, to the children who took part and to those who had volunteered to coordinate the event including a Unity resident.
