Unity Housing Association restored to former glory

Unity Housing Association recently celebrated the completion of the recent refurbishment of its office on Chapeltown Road, Leeds.

The building underwent a dramatic transformation and has been restored to how it would have appeared in its Victorian heyday. As much of the original stonework as possible was preserved in order to achieve this.

The building is not the first to have benefitted from funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in order to support the works; some of Unity’s neighbours further up Chapeltown Road have also been restored, improving the appearance of a major passage in and out of central Leeds.

At the event were many of the people and organisations who helped Unity to achieve this transformation including the contractors, Cristophers Construction, representatives from Leeds City Council and representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Local councillors, Jane Dowson and Mohammed Rafique were also present and commented on the project’s success.

Chief Executive of Unity Housing Association, Ali Akbor, gave his thanks at the event to everyone who had been involved in the refurbishment:

‘Unity is committed to the continued development of the Chapeltown Road corridor and is very pleased to have worked in partnership with Leeds City Council and the Heritage Lottery Fund on this project. We have also taken the opportunity to revamp the reception area of our offices to create better disabled access and improved facilities for our customers and visitors.’
