Unity provides work experience opportunity for local school pupil

Halima Jamal, of Allerton Grange High School, Moortown has recently completed a week’s work experience at Unity Housing Association.

The 15 year old spent a day helping each department including the housing and maintenance team, the customer service team, the IT department and Unity Enterprise. Halima also visited a number of properties as part of her work experience and helped prepare for the ‘Home is where the heart is’ welcoming event for residents living at our latest development ‘The Beverleys’.

Halima is considering a career in housing in the future and she believes her experience here has helped her prepare for that. She particularly enjoyed spending time in the maintenance department: ‘I would love to come back and work here. I enjoyed working in maintenance’.

Unity’s Maintenance Manager, Mr Caron commented that: ‘it has been a pleasure having Halima working with us for the last week. She has shown an interest in everything we do and tried her hand in all our departments. Her enthusiasm and application to our work not only does her great credit but also her family, her school and her local community. We wish her well for the future and hope that other students who undertake work experience with us show such promise’.

This is not the first time Unity has provided work experience opportunities for local people and given Halima’s success it is certainly something we would like to do more of in the future.
