Unity Provides Home-Warming Celebration

Unity Provides Home-Warming Celebration for Residents of Latest Development – find out more

On Friday 28th September, Unity Housing Association hosted a ‘Launch Party’ to welcome the tenants and residents who moved into our latest development, Scott Hall Square. The event served as a celebration of the development’s completion and a chance for the tenants to meet one another, Unity staff, their local councillors as well as a number of people who had been involved with the development of the Scott Hall Square.

Chief guest at the event was Cllr Richard Lewis, Leeds City Council Executive Board Member with a responsibility for Economy and Development, who acknowledged the success of the development: ‘It is excellent to see the development completed and dedicated completely to affordable housing. It is a great new addition to this local community.’

Not only did the development’s construction provide apprenticeship opportunities for local people, as part of the ‘shared ownership’ scheme, it gave first-time buyers the opportunity to own and manage their own home. The development also marks the start of an ongoing process of regeneration in the Scott Hall area.

Also at the event was the first resident to move into the development, Miss Pamela Colbourne, who gave her thanks to Unity Housing Association for helping her in a time of need and providing her with the opportunity to own her own home as part of the shared ownership scheme. Chief Executive of Unity Housing Association, Ali Akbor, presented Miss Colbourne with a gift as a means of welcoming her into her new home.

A number of people who had been involved in the construction of the development also attended the event “ including the contractors Frank Haslam Milan along with some of the apprentices who had helped to build the properties and now had full-time jobs as a direct result of the apprenticeship scheme.

Wayne Noteman, (pictured far right) Regeneration Director at Unity Housing Association stated that: ‘This development is a great example of how the Council, Homes & Communities Agency, Unity and local people can work together to develop much needed affordable homes that play an important role in raising the standard of the city’.
